We are committed to offering a website that respects our visitors’ privacy. This Privacy Policy governs the way in which The Speech & Stuttering Institute collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users of the www.ssitraininghub.ca website. This Privacy Policy applies to the site and all related services offered by The Speech & Stuttering Institute.
Personal identification information
We may collect personal identification information from users in a variety of ways. These include when Users visit our site, register on the site, register for an event, subscribe to the newsletter, respond to a survey, fill out a form, participate in a community forum, or take our e-learning course(s).
Users may be asked for their name, email address, mailing address, phone number, workrelated role(s), and, for the purposes of determining eligibility for some services, information about their current workplace. Users may update or change this information at any time by signing into the Member Portal and updating their profile. Users may request their account to be deleted by contacting us (see contact details at the bottom of this document).
We will collect personal identification information from Users only if they have voluntarily submitted such information to us.
Users may visit our Site anonymously (that is, without signing in). Users can always refuse to supply personal identification information, except that it may prevent them from engaging in many (indeed, most) Site-related activities.
Non-personal identification information
We may collect non-personal identification information about Users whenever they interact with our Site. Non-personal identification information may include the browser name, the type of device used to access the Site, the time of day when Users access the site, any documents they download from the site, the webpage(s) they visit and how much time they spend on each page. It may also include technical information about Users’ means of connection to our Site, such as the operating system and the Internet service providers they are using.
Web browser cookies
Our Site may use “cookies” to enhance the User experience. A User’s web browser places “cookies” (small files) on their hard drive to manage their session when they are logged into the site. Cookies also help to track users’ preferences (for example, for language or location) and use of the site (such as, webpages visited and type of device used) for web analytics. Users may choose to set their web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert when cookies are being sent. If they do so, note that some parts of the Site may not function properly.
How we use collected information
The Speech & Stuttering Institute may collect and use Users’ personal information for the following purposes:
To offer services to our Users
We use the information collected through the site in order to deliver the services we offer our Users. For example, this information allows users to sign in to the site to access the resource library, 1:1 support calls, webinars, or email consultations.
To improve our Site
We may use the information we collect to improve our Site and services. For example, by knowing which pages, posts, and topics are most and least often visited, we are able to tailor future content to suit our Users’ interests and preferences.
To provide information to our funder
We may use information collected through the site to demonstrate to our funder (Ontario’s Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services) that the website is being accessed by our intended audience. Such information about usage patterns would be presented in an anonymized and aggregated manner so that no identifying information about any individuals would be shared.
To send periodic emails
Unless Users ask us not to, we may use email addresses to send Users information and updates pertaining to ongoing training opportunities, newsletters, updates, and so forth. Email may also be used to respond to inquiries, questions, and/or other requests. If at any time a User would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, they may do so by updating their preferences in the Member Portal or by clicking on the ‘Unsubscribe’ or ‘Manage Preferences’ links included at the bottom of each newsletter.
How we protect your information
We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information, username, password, and data stored on our Site.
Sensitive and private data exchange between the Site and its Users happens over a SSL secured communication channel and is encrypted and protected with digital signatures.
Sharing your personal information
We do not sell, trade, or rent Users’ personal identification information to others.
We use third party service providers to help us communicate with and offer services to our Users. For example, we may use:
- MailChimp: for sending out newsletters
- Zoom: for 1-to-1 and group videoconference calls
- Calendly: for scheduling appointments.
We may share your information with these or similar other third parties for these limited purposes.
Third party websites
Users may find content on our Site that links to the sites and services of third parties.
As mentioned above, these third parties may include but are not limited to software subscriptions to Zoom (for 1-to-1 and group videoconferencing), Calendly (to facilitate scheduling of 1-to-1 visits) and MailChimp (to facilitate newsletter design and distribution).
We may also link to external webpages of interest to our users (for example, scientific journal articles, webinars hosted by other organizations, or blog posts).
We do not control the content or links that appear on these sites and are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from our Site. In addition, these sites or services, including their content and links, may be constantly changing. These sites and services may have their own privacy policies and customer service policies. Browsing and interaction on any other website, including websites which have a link to our Site, is subject to that website’s own terms and policies.
Changes to this privacy policy
The Speech & Stuttering Institute has the discretion to update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the updated date at the bottom of this page. We encourage Users to frequently check this page for any changes to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this privacy policy periodically and become aware of modifications.
Your acceptance of these terms
By using this Site, you signify your acceptance of this policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use our Site. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes to this policy will be deemed your acceptance of those changes.
